Design
Depending on the complexity and scale of the project, we would generally carry out a concept design which captures the client’s dream while tailoring to the unique characteristics of the site and with sensitivity to the surrounding natural environment. The design process allows for a considered and unique landscape to emerge, providing clients with a clear understanding of our creative vision, and setting the scene for a smooth construction process from start to completion.
Construction
With over 10 years of experience in landscape construction, we are able to execute any aspect of hard and soft landscaping to an impeccable standard. In saying this, we also greatly value and appreciate spaces that exude character, warmth and a handmade touch, intentionally steering clear of constructing landscapes that feel clinical or sterile. Achieving this balance of polish with soulful character is a skill in its own that has been developed over many years and is something that sets us apart. Jake also draws on years of experience in structural engineering from a previous life, which bolsters the integrity of our structures and ensures the delivery of an enduring and timeless landscape.
We are proficient in all areas of landscaping, but below are some specific aspects that we like to include in our designs.
Stonework
We have a bit of an obsession with dry-stone walls and traditional stonework. Whether it be utilising existing stone on site or sandstone from one of our local quarries, we love creating timeless feature walls using traditional techniques. The inclusion of sandstone in a landscape subtly connect us to the geology of our region, which produces a feeling that cannot be matched when using imported or foreign stone. It also ties in so well to various styles of planting, particularly native gardens.
Paving
We love to include small, feature paving areas in our designs generally using recycled bricks, sandstone or a mixture of both. Keeping these areas small and focal and heavily softened with planting ensure the landscape does not become dominated by hard surfaces, which can produce the feeling of a hot and barren space.
Carpentry
Utilising native Australian hardwoods (preferably recycled) in feature structures throughout our landscapes introduce the warmth of timber and create focal areas to draw occupants through the garden. Pergolas add elevation and a shady place to sit, while decking provides a functional space for outdoor dining and entertaining.
Native and perennial gardens
One of our favourite aspects of landscaping is designing and planting out the garden areas. The careful selection and placement of plants can make or break a landscape and we love to incorporate plants everywhere imaginable to create natural and secluded green spaces. We specialise in native gardens and incorporating endemic plant species, as well as naturalistic perennial cottage gardens, both of which are great for providing habitat to all forms of biodiversity.
Veggie gardens and permaculture
There’s nothing more rewarding than growing and eating your own food. The inclusion of veggie gardens and fruit trees provides clients with an opportunity to be connected to their garden in the most tangible way possible. We have extensive experience in constructing various types of raised/wicking beds, espalier orchards and can source the best variety of fruit trees for a particular site. By getting your hands in the earth and mindfully tuning in to the elements, you are engaging in a plethora of health benefits to both mind and body. We are also experienced and passionate about permaculture and provide consultations, full-scale permaculture design and implementation for our clients.
